Yandex Maps and Navigator – Directories and Navigators in Russia
In our ongoing series of articles about Russian navigation systems that can benefit your business’s marketing efforts in Russia, we shift our focus to Yandex.Maps. In a previous article, I discussed 2GIS and Inforino, and today we delve into the details of Yandex.Maps.
“Yandex. Maps and Yandex.Navigator”
“Yandex” stands as the largest and arguably the sole Russian search service. This company predominantly emulates certain services from “Google,” and due to a closer working relationship compared to the transnational corporation, these imitations have achieved remarkable success. Among them is “Yandex.Maps.” The service encompasses three smartphone applications that serve distinct purposes – “Mobile Yandex.Maps,” “Yandex.Underground” (for pedestrians), and “Yandex.Navigator.” These applications provide detailed maps of Russian cities and offer real-time traffic jam information. The “Yandex.Navigator” app, in particular, is highly popular among motorists who form its primary user base.
Just like on “Google” Maps, anyone can mark their company on “Yandex.Maps.” However, there are also paid options available, such as larger icons for map markers and banner displays.
Customers generally perceive the effectiveness of advertising on these platforms as low, but they acknowledge that navigation services are relatively new and expected to evolve over time.
How to include your company
To add your organization to “Yandex.Maps,” utilize the service called “Yandex.Addresses.” Simply complete the form by providing the address, phone numbers, and opening hours of your company. After a few days, once the moderators have reviewed your application, your organization will be displayed on “Yandex.Maps” and its associated applications.
