The top event tourism destinations as chosen by Russians were revealed.

The OneTwoTrip travel planning service conducted a study revealing insights into Russians’ perspectives on holiday and event-based trips, as well as their most memorable destinations. Italy emerged as the preferred country among respondents, while St. Petersburg stood out as the top Russian destination. These findings were based on the results of the study.

The study found that 58% of Russians embark on trips to commemorate significant events. Notably, 59% of participants celebrated their birthdays during a trip, and 45% chose to ring in the New Year while traveling.

Furthermore, 52% of respondents took part in local festivities abroad, while 9% opted for domestic trips within Russia. Among tourists, 33% traveled to other cities or countries to attend concerts by their favorite artists, and 22% ventured to sports competitions.

The study highlighted Italy as the most popular international destination for memorable event-based trips. This included honeymoons (10%), birthday celebrations, attendance at the Venice Carnival, or visits to exhibitions. Thailand secured the second spot (9%), where many chose to celebrate the New Year or tie the knot.

France, particularly Paris, was named by 7.5% of participants, who embarked on trips to profess their love, attend concerts or exhibitions, and commemorate birthdays. Spain left a lasting impression on 7% of respondents, who witnessed football matches or celebrated the New Year in the Canary Islands. Turkey attracted 5.9% of Russian travelers, with some spending their honeymoons there.

Among Russian cities, St. Petersburg emerged as the most popular for event tourism, as noted by 19% of respondents. Sochi, Elbrus, and Lake Baikal were memorable destinations for 11% of travelers, who often chose these locations for marriage proposals or New Year celebrations. Kaliningrad welcomed 7% of visitors who celebrated their birthdays there. Dagestan, Altai, and Kamchatka were also in high demand, each named by 5.7% of respondents.

The survey gathered responses from a total of 2,400 participants.
